Ah the memories

Another year, another kick ass birthday. On July 23, I want to the mallards game with Jenn, Dan "Awesome" Kelley, Fred, Ashleigh, Erin, CarrieAnn and Eli. We bought tickets to the drunk blind, i mean, duck blind. The thing I love most about Wisconsin is that apparently the locals think they have a mandate to drink often and to drink liquor of the highest quality. For 35 dollars, we had all you can eat AND all you can drink. And not just one type of beer, but around 20 different kinds of beer. It was such a beautiful site I almost wept.

Speaking of Birthday, I was unpacking/cleaning my office and came across this. It's a "birthday card" that Andrew gave me for my 21st birthday. Can't believe I still have it, but it shouldn't really surprise me due to the awesomeness.

In other news, Jenn left for St. Louis today to go on a vacation with her family. She'll be gone until sometime next week. so the house will be pretty quiet. Not sure what I'll do with the free time, suppose I'll keep cleaning.

Eye of the Tiger

Stop me if you've heard this one before. I woke up this morning, stepped on the scale and sighed. That's when I finally realized I might be a tad overweight...

Or more likely, I'm fat. I could blame an inactive childhood, a thyroid problem, mommy didn't love enough me enough, or Haley's comet on this problem, but the truth is, I am a damn lazy person when it comes to exercising. I *loathe* it. I would rather do almost anything that actually do some kind of physical activity that reminds me I'm exercising. Sure, I like to play softball, golf, and other sports. But running? Biking? Walking? Crawling? none of that for me please.

Until today.

I restarted the Couch to 5k program. My goals for it are a little different than the goals of the actual program. They want you actually sign up and complete a 5k. For me, it's not about distance, it's about time. Stamina if you will. I want to be able to jog for 30 mins. It may be a slow jog, but damn it, it'll be a jog. And at the end of this jogging period, I don't want to collapse, or puke, or anything else.

This should carry me through until at least the winter time, when I'll have to figure out something else to do. I'm going to run, but to hell with running in weather that causes boiling water to freeze in a matter of seconds. If anyone has any good ideas for exercising inside, (barring a treadmill, I really hate those things) I'd be happy to hear them.

As far as the rest of the day, I was sort of productive. After another day at work and running, I got my finances up to date in quicken, with another vow to never let it fall behind again. I've opened up two ING Direct savings accounts, and I encourage everyone to check them out and move long term savings to them. At 1.4%, it blew the water out of my .025% U.S. Bank Savings account. I've set them to automatically withdraw money at the 1st of the month so I'll never see it or miss it. I also am setting up to automatically put money into my Edward Jones account to start investing (in addition to the 401k I have at work) Maybe I'll actually have money when I retire?

Rocking the Suburbs

It would figure that I would try to start blogging regularly and then not post again for weeks. Hopefully I'll get into a groove at some point.

Notable things for the last few days:

Home Run Derby was a blast to watch as always, even if it was a little long. Albert Pujols put on a pretty good show, lasting to the second round before bowing out. Probably a good thing over all. The winner, Prince Fielder, was arguably the star of the show, belting out several long homeruns over 500 ft.

As far as the all star game goes, that could have been better. The American League won again, leaving a sneaking suspicion that the National League is simply outclassed. The happiest person there though ,was Yadi Molina. His first all star game and has a great day behind and at the plate.

Not a lot else happened until the last few days when Dan "Awesome" Kelley came to visit. We had a great time with Fred as well, drinking, smoking cigars, and trying to run Ethernet cable through my house with mixed results.

During the hang out, Fred turned me on to a show called "Moonlighting" which was an old detective show starring Bruce Willis. I have no idea how I haven't seen this show before, and so far the pilot is hilarious.

Anyway, we'll see how this blogging things goes. Hopefully I'll get into the swing of things yet.

First!

This is my next, first attempt at a Blog/journal/something to keep my occupied at 1 AM. This will be a work in progress of sorts, as I'm not entirely sure what I want to do with this. I'm going to try to post regularly, although I'm sure the 5 of you who end up reading this already know my life story in intimate detail.

All of that being said, I think it's important that a man keeps a journal of some sort, even if it's just the mundane details. I'm at an exciting point in my life, recently married, firmly under the man's thumb in debt for a nice house, and really enjoying what I do for living (even the 1 AM parts). Maybe my future kids will one day want to know what my life was like at this time, and since I think google will be around until the end of time, this seems like as good of a place as any to keep for posterity sake.

And with that, it's time to go work.
